Mineral deeds are filed for record in the courthouse of each county in each state. You need a property description of the land you are inquiring about.

Check phone book under government for state or local geology office; if you have a deed, the lawyer who drew up the document should know, or refund your fee.

You can go to the county courthouse or town hall to find out records on anyone who owns a piece of property. Once you know who owns the piece of property you can do a further search to find out if there are any mineral rights to the property held by others.

If the mineral rights have not been sold by you, you can reference your deed or mortgage to see who has the legal rights to the minerals under the property. If the home has had prior owners or mineral rights were sold, you can search the county courthouse records.
