Filing a lien can be time consuming. So it is best to hire an attorney for their help. Filing a lien is typically down in Civil Court to get the judgement to collect unpaid debts to you. The judgement will usually say that the person has a set period of time to repay you.

It depends entirely on where the lien is being filed and what the purpose of the lien is. Approach your municipal court, if you don't wont use a lawyer. Ask about the procedures required in your municipality. Be sure to provide all the details about your particular situation.

If you didn't lend them a lot of money then you better just draw up a simple contract and have them sign it saying that they will pay us back. If they don't give us our money back then we can file a judgment against them.
