There should be an adjustment nut on the back of the swing arm you have to loosen the nuts that hold the wheel on and then after that use the adjustment nut to move the chain forward. It may take a little bit of time but you need to bring the chain forward.

That's for the drive chain, not the cam chain.  add a comment

The Suzuki GS550 is an especially tricky motorcycle to do a cam chain adjustment. If you don't have the correct wrench then you will undoubtably do nothing more than mess up your motorcycle. Also, always start with Clymer's Guidebooks when you want to do any work on your bike as they are essential for proper maintenance.

The adjusted is spring operated so if it is not working it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. to do this remove carbs, loosen lock nut and lock screw on the tensioner plunger. remove mounting bolts. replace adjusted with new or rebuilt one and then Reinstall carbs.

If you have the users manual for your Suzuki it will include the information you need to adjust your cam chain. If you do not have this manual you can contact Suzuki directly to get a copy or you might try searching the internet for an online version of the manual you need.
