How do I do a shovelhead hydraulic lifter adjustment?

Not a lot of room to tell you here, more online- You don't need to collapse the lifter to adjust it. Take out slack with the pushrod, then put some pre-lifter on, so- if your lifter is pumped up and has oil in it you need only go. 060 of an inch past slackout point-research online for more.

It would be best to consult a manual written specifically for your engine. Your local library may be able to get you a copy of the relevant manuals through inter-library loan. You can photocopy the relevant pages and avoid checking out the material.

On a closed valve, loosen the jamb nut and adjust the rod until there is no up and down movement but it will still turn freely.
