To dispute any trade on your credit bureau you have to file a dispute with the credit reporting agency. Call them and they will tell you how.

Contact billing department for a copy of your itemized bill. You'll need review the bill and point out any errors. Contact billing and let them know which charges you believe you shouldn't have to pay. Let insurance company know, they may need to resubmit the claim.

The first thing you should do when disputing a medical bill is to make sure you have any receipts from the day in question. Call the office of the company that sent the bill and talk to them about why you feel there is an error. Make sure all insurance information is correct as well.

Write back to the medical insurer. Describe the dates and times of service, the services actually provided and copies of any medical records that show your side. Many errors come from mis-classification of services in medical coding, resulting in higher charges for service.

You can dispute, in writing, items on the bill for services that you did not receive. For example, you may have been given crutches and charged for a PT consult you did not receive. That charge can be removed. Consult with a helpful person in the billing office to go over the bill line by line.

Start by contacting the billing agent which should be marked on the bill. Next you may want to try contacting the insurance company and or doctors office/hospital where you were.

Write a letter to the entity issuing the bill. State clearly what is in dispute and why. Notify your insurance company of the dispute by copying them on the letter. Keep copies of the letters and records of all conversations (date, time, names and what was discussed).

You want to contact the doctor, hospital or medical clinic where you received care and explain to them why you want to dispute your bill.

It depends how far your bill has gone without being repaid. If it has already gone to collections, you will only be able to deal with the collections company. However, if you haven't let it go that far, your best bet is to contact the service provider directly (the hospital corporation, the doctor, etc. ) and complain about the charge.
