Remove wheels and brake drums. Remove rear differential cover. Remove drive shaft. Remove yolk nut. remove carrier bolts. You will need specs to set differential backlash and pinion depth.

The job you're about to undertake is very hard. The bed of all pickup trucks (including your Dodge Ram 1500) is welded to the cab. You'll need a welder to detatch the rear end from the cab, and you need expertise in using the equiptment. Once the rear end is disassembled, make sure you use auto-grade steel for your replacement.

The best thing to do is to make sure you have all the parts when you are doing rebuild. Once you have everything you can drop the shaft and start pulling the bolts out of the pumpkin.
