If you are inside the USA you have to dial 011 followed by the international number of the country (Australia has 61) and the phone number.

First, make sure you know what time it is before you call! Second dial the international access code which is 011. Then dial 61, which is the country code of Australia. Then dial the city code and follow with the actual phone number.

All countries have different country codes for international dialing. The country code for Australia is 61. To dial a number that is in Australia you will also need to dial 011 to designate the call as an international call. To dial a number in Australia, dial 011 the 61 then the phone number.
