If you have my computer on your desktop all you have to do is right click on the icon and go down to properties. It should come up and say a number beside the number of megabytes of memory or gigabytes of memory.

For the most part, desktop computers have 4 units available and laptops have two. These are slots where you place the RAM chips for your computer. Each chip has a set amount of MB, for example 2 (64mb) chips placed into an available slot will give you 128mb, and 2 (128mb) chips will give you 256mb.

Well if you just want to know how much physical memory or "ram" a computer has you can typically just right click on "my computer" and it will be listed there. You could also just remove the memory access cover on the bottom of the laptop. Then look to see how many and how big each stick is.
