The easiest way is to start by ensuring that the AS400 is running an FTP Server. Then, map a drive to it using FTP and drag and drop as needed.

I use ibm pcs 5. 0 which has an utility to browse AS 400 files and full import export functionality to and from excel. No DDE link is required as you can upload excel files which gets automatically translated in EBCDIC by PCS onces files reach the AS 400. With the same utility you can browse the AS 400 file structure

Connect excel to AS400 to upload data, we can use PCS 5.0 which has an utility software to upload AS 400 files from excel. While uploading there is no need of DDE link and which gets automatically translated in EBCDIC by PCS software. We can also download the AS400 file structure.

Open office is available for windows and linux. You could use this application to import the excel sheet. Even under aix unix it is possible to run open office.

In order to connect Excel to upload data you will need to connect the port that will be used. Once the port has been plugged in your can use it correctly.
