Well there are two way. Use a foaming cleaner that you spray in the intake tube or hand clean it. To hand clean it simply remove it and scrub it with a soft brush and some electrical parts cleaner. However you must be gentle because those sensors can be very delicate.

Best way to clean your sensor is to replace it or buy a spray can clean it without damaging it. Gasoline is another way to clean parts very well but not recommended for electronic parts. Make sure before you attempt disconnect the negative battery cable and replace any gaskets or O-rings.

Mass air flow sensors cannot really be cleaned. They are a pressure sensor designed to detect variances in air pressure in the intake manifold. You could clean the terminals it is connected to, but you can't really clean the sensor itself.

Take it off enough so that you can see the screen. Then go to the auto parts store and buy mass airflow sensor cleaner. Spray it through the screen and any other visibly dirty part and reassemble it,and your done.

You can use brake clean to clean out the carbon that builds up on the sensor. Try not to break the filliment in the sensor.

This is very easy to clean. You just take some water and good smelling soup and trow the water into the mass air flow sensor. If it is still not clean enough, repeat this for a couple of times. You will see that your mass air flow sensor will look brand new again.
