How do I check to see if the EGR solenoid is bad?

You can check a EGR solenoid by using a multimeter. touch the connector to the socket on solenoid and you should hear a click as the solenoid opens and closes.

One way would be to check to make sure there is power getting to the egr valve and if theres power take a multi-meter and check how much voltage is gettinh to the egr soleniod. get the proper electrical specs and check your results. another way would be to see if the egr valve gasket is stuck open or closed.

There are a couple ways you can do this. You can either remove the EGR solenoid directly, and examine it by hand checking for stripping, or damages, or you can take it in, and have a mechanic scan the electronic board, the second choice is more efficient but tends to be more costly.
