A .gif and an mpg are two totally different files. A gif file is a image file (Graphic Interchange Format), while an MPG is a video file. You may be able to use a video editing program to string gif files together into an MPG.

Assuming you are talking about an animated picture you will need some particular software. I think you could try with imagemagick for Linux, which converts lots of graphics formats. However I am not sure if it can deal with animations and movie formats. In the worst case you can use the multimedia framework of Java to convert the formats.

There is no way to do this without using some type of software. You are taking a picture format and converting it to a movie format so you can't simply save it as a different type like other images.

To change a .Gif to a .Mpg, one must open the GIF in a picture editing software, E.G.: Photoshop, Paint, or any other sorts of those. Apon opening it, the user may re-save it as a .Mpg format.

You can open the .gif file using MSpaint and then you can select the "save as" option from the file menu to save it as .mpg file.

You can do this with a combination of River Past Video Cleaner, QuickTime and River Past MPEG-2 Booster Pack. River Past Video Cleaner is shareware.

you will have to find a video capturing program, and capture the gif as a video while it's playing on your screen.
