How do I care for American water dragons?

They require extensive care compared to many other reptiles. They need a large cage with room to climb and a large swimming area.

There are species from Australia and Asia, but none from America. The most commonly kept is the Chinese species. They like daytime temperatures in the mid 80's and nighttime temperatures around 75 to 80 with humidity in the 80% range. They require special lighting with high UVB output to avoid sickness or even death from metabolic bone disease.

Make sure they have the appropriate amount of heat and water. Feed them things only in their diet as well, this can apply to all reptiles.
