Every month, first your estrogen increases, helping the egg develop, then with ovulation, progesterone increases, to help build up the uterine lining and prepare it for possible pregnancy. When that doesn't happen, two weeks after ovulation, the hormones drop, and the menses begin, shedding unneeded uterine lining. The process will then begin again.

Yes your hormones change during menses. When your body realizes that it is not pregnant with the pregnancy hormone then the hormones changes so that your body will cleanse itself and that is why you have a period. Sometimes we call those hormone changes pms the week before we have our menses.

Your hormones control your menstrual cycle. During each cycle, your brain's hypothalamus and pituitary gland send hormone signals back and forth with your ovaries. Estrogen and progesterone play the biggest roles.

Many hormones can change during before and during menses. For example, a drop in progesterone will cause a period to start. Estrodial increases during menses until follicles mature into eggs and a woman ovulates.
