That's smart. You can just tell guys the truth, you'd like their number. Most guys will probably be thrilled to give it to you, and there is no need to tell them yours until you are ready.

All you have to do is ask the guy for his, and say that for personal reasons, you'd rather that than give yours out.

If you want someone's phone number, you get it the same way a guy does -- by asking politely. I don't blame you for not wanting to give your phone number out; you definitely want to be careful to whom you give any personal information. Also, be careful about asking people for numbers.

Just ask for the phone number, something like can I get your number, or how can I reach you, what's your number? Any of those should work fine.
