How do doctors hear a fetal heartbeat?

Isn't it too weak for a stethoscope?

Doctors use a doppler. They place it against the location of your uterus. Your baby's heartbeat is much faster than your own. Early on, it is more difficult to hear becasue the baby can hide. Later in the pregnancy, the fetus will usually kick the doppler.

You can't hear the fetal heart beat through the stethoscope. They use a doppler, on your belly. It uses sound waves to amplify the heart beat, and puts it out through a speaker so you can hear it.
