You can ask the Chinese restaurant for nutritional facts if they are available or you can try to make your own Chinese food and calculate the exact calories. A 8oz meal of fried rice contains 450 calories when it is in a restaurant like Panda Express, so you can try to make a less fattening version at home.

Calorie contents in Chinese food are difficult to calculate because the calories are mostly in the preparation. Most inexpensive restaurants will use a lot of oils to prepare food and that increases the calories. The restaurant may have nutrition facts posted online, if not, use the USDA nutrient database and ask the server for 'light' items.

Get an ingredient list. Estimate the percentage of the weight in the product. Then multiply that weight of each ingredient by the number of calories per ounce. Add up the calories for all the ingredients.

Products sold in the United States have nutritional information labels on them. They usually are adjusted for serving sizes. Besides a breakdown of vitamins and minerals included in the food, they have a listing of the caloric content. So check out the nutrition label and add up your calories from the serving size you plan to use.
