Two single parents in New York City started the organization in 1957. Jim Egleston and Jacqueline Bernard decided single parents needed more support and thought they could help each other.

In the mid to late 1950s two single parents founded Parents without Partners to support unmarried parents in New York City. It's been over 40 years and this organization is still greatly respected and admired by many. As a self-help resource they have thrived to provide service throughout many years.
