A skin tag is usually small, of normal color and does not cause any pain in the area. HPV symptoms differ in color, cause pain and can spread if scratched or irritated. If you think you have HPV, see a doctor and begin treatment and prevention of spreading the infection to a partner immediately.

The best way to tell the difference is hpv has a cauliflower look to them. Also, a skin tag is smooth to the touch and hpv is rough. Skin tags have one color and hpv(warts) are usually multicolored.A wart biopsy will show hpv but a skin tag shows nothing abnormal.

See a dermatologist. You can't tell the difference by just looking at it unless you have special training. Either way, a dermatologist can get it taken care of for you, usually in an office visit.

Skin tags are patches on your skin that are a result of out of control cell growth. HPV is a virus that sprouts bumps around the vagina, genitals, and mouth.
