First you have to wash the towel with soap. Rinse it then put it again in the washing machine, soak it for ten minutes with soap and bleach. Then rinse it thoroughly with a fabric conditioner. After spinning it dry, let it thoroughly dry in the heat of the sun.

For light colors you can use a mild chlorine bleach mixture added to the wash cycle. There are many laundry detergents and fabric softeners that deodorize fabrics on the market.

If your towels have a musty, mildewy smell, try soaking them in white vinegar for a couple of hours and then wash them as you normally would. If it does not work the first time, try it again and let them soak longer. I have used this method numerous times.

By adding ammonia during wash will give fresh smell. Towels can be dried in hot sun even after drying in the machine.
