If you are unsure of the situation, visit the doctor. They can prescribe over-the-counter topical ointments to heal and keep it from spreading. Ringworm is a fungus and can be treated with Lamisil, miconazole, or clotrimazole. If it is on the scalp, use a dandruff shampoo that contains pyrithione zinc-most dandruff shampoos contain this. Problem should clear within a week.

Ringworm is very contagious. The things you can do to prevent the spread are complete the treatment even if your daughter has no symptoms, don't share personal items like clothes or towels, and minimize contact with others until it resolves.

Ringworm is a fungus. You can prevent the spread remembering a few common rules. Wash you hands often. Dry yourself completely after bathing, especailly feet. Apply antifingal powder to you feet to help dry up the moisture. Keep your house clean, especially bathrooms, carpets and floors. Use you own hairbrush, toothbrush, and other personal hygiene items. Don't share.

There are some creams in the market that prevent this by killing the ringworm. Usually when a ringworm lodges itself and the mark appears the ringworm has stopped moving, this is where you apply the medication. You can prevent getting infected by wearing clean footwear and not sharing or borrowing footwear.
