The color of the flowers depends on the composition of the soil, which you can adjust. You will need to create a ph. of between 5. 2 and 5. 5; this is easier if you plant your hydrangea in a pot. If the soil is too alkiline, add aluminum sulfate. If it's too acidic, add lime or wood ash.

White hydrangeas cannot be turned blue. To make a blue hydrangea, aluminum must be present in the soil. A solution of 1/2 oz aluminum sulfate per gallon should be appled throughout the season. The pH should be low (5. 2-5. 5). A fertilizer low in phosphorus and high in potassium is also good to use - avoid bone meal.

In two words, aluminum sulfate. The more you use the darker blue the flowers will be. Spread the aluminum sulfate around the plant about where the leaves end, in a circle around the plant. Water it thoroughly. If your plan has not yet flowered, the new flowers will be blue. Other floweres will change color as the AS is absorbed

First the variety of the Hydrangea has to be one that can change colors. Generally, only pink varieties can change to blue. Hydrangeas will change flower color to blue with a low soil pH. Done by add Aluminum Sulfate to the soil at a rate of 1/2oz per/gal of water. This can be bought at most garden centers.

Hydrangea flowers change color in response to nutrients in the soil. In order to make the flower change to a blue color, you need to add aluminum to the soil. Add an aluminum sulfate mixture. It will help if the soil has a low pH.

The color blue is obtained by using one tablespoon of aluminum sulfate per gallon of water per flower. Do not over fertilize or it will kill the plant and only do it in the growing not dormant season of the plant. Water plant first sufficiently.
