Try tying the potty training to some sort of reward. One woman explained that she could only have one "non-potty trained being" in the house, and therefore the family couldn't get a puppy until her son was potty trained. You can also model "adult" behavior through using the bathroom yourself.

You can't "make" your child want to be potty trained. But you should have a daily routine of taking him to the bathroom so he will get used to it. Kids will do it on their own when they are ready. My son did it 2 weeks before his 4th birthday. We struggled with him, but he did it.

Get a jar and some small colorful rubber balls. Tell your son every time he uses the potty he will put one rubber ball in the jar. When the jar is full he can then go to the store and buy a toy of his choosing.

Unfortunately, you cannot make someone want to do anything. Take advantage of kids' tendency to want to be grownup, in the eyes of their peers. Having friends overnight might help.
