If you are using Windows, you need to get to your power properties screen in order to disable the sleep option. If you hit Start, then control panel, you should be able to find your power properties. Once there, set "system standby" and "system hibernate" to "never. "

You can change the settings to make the computer not to sleep. Just go to Control Panel > Power Options > Power Schemes. It has options to change the time to turn off monitor and other options as well. You can create your own settings, save them for later use.
