Picking up on social cues is something that eludes many people. Use everything at your disposal such as reading materials and online articles to assist you. You can also start studying body language. Any change in emotion or feeling is almost guaranteed to show up in ones body language.

Social cues can be picked up by looking at verbal or nonverbal cues. Listening, replying, and reconizing emotions are all important in an social environment. Watching for hand gestures, body postion, and facial expressions are all non-verbal cues that are important in a social enviorment.

I would say TV might be one means of getting better in social situations. Though I am not usually a proponent of reality television, I believe if you are really looking to pick up on proper social cues and behaviors, then this might be a good place to start.

Picking up on social cues is all about listening and paying attention to those around you. Try and notice patterns. If everyone is looking at you, are they waiting for you to speak? When someone says something about being busy and having stuff to do, is it time to go?
