While worms are good for lawns, too many can make one squirm. Most lawn insecticides will kill off the worms near the surface, to get the deep ones requires flooding the lawn to force them to the surface, then spraying insecticide directly on them.

Your local big-box home improvement store will have a variety of spray on insecticides, several of which are effective against worms.

Worms are the single most important factor in keeping the soil healthy. The last thing you want to do is kill the worms. Consider yourself very lucky to have them.

Avoid leaving leaves on the surface during the autumn and winter because this warm blanket of organic matter is an ideal restaurant for the worms. Do not allow a build up of thatch as again this decaying matter is digested by the worm which leads to casting deposits. keep the grass at a reasonable height.
