Whatever you do, do not refrigerate them. When refrigerated they rot almost instantly. My advice is to keep them at room temperature and they'll stay fresh longer.

Bananas stay fresh longer when they are connected to one another and when they are hanging. If you buy one of those banana hangers, your bananas will stay fresh longer.

Keep your bananas in a bowl on your counter top and don't put them into the refrigerator. Bananas are a tropical fruit and the cold inside your refrigerator will accelerate how quickly they will spoil.

Try purchasing bananas that have a small amount of green on them, if possible. Otherwise put them in the refrigerator, the skins will turn dark, but that does not affect the fruit inside.

don't put unripe bananas in the fridge because this halts the ripening process; only put ripe bananas in the fridge as this will keep them ripe  add a comment

Bananas will ripen faster in warm, humid areas, so they will ripen quickly during the summer months. Store them in a cool, dry place, this will slow the rate of ripening. You can also refrigerate them. The skins will darken, but they will still be okay to eat and the cold will keep them from getting overripe.
