You might find that your acid levels will rise once you go off Prilosec. Make sure that you eat the right foods and substitute Prilosec for a mild anti-acid.

you might want to try takeing it one every other day for about a month. it works without any side effects even on the days you dont take a pill. if nothing else you are only takeing 15 pills a month and not 30.  add a comment

Prilosec is not habit forming. Prilosec is Omeprazole which is proton pump inhibitor, used to reduce acid secretion in stomach .However, you might want to take some steps to naturally reduce acid level in your stomach, such as reducing stress, eating smaller and more regular meals etc.

Are you sure that you are weaning is because of prilosec. It may be due to dust allergy. So this allergy must be treated as soon as possible by antibiotics.

Ask your doctor about how to do this, or at least for how long, but one pill every day and a half, then every two days, and so on.

You do not need to wean off of prilosec. The medication can be stopped at any time. It can even then be used just as needed if you do start to have more heartburn later on. This is an over the counter medication now (prilosec OTC) and the directions are that you can take it as needed.

Re: answer by 4now4, please edit your comment; you are wrong that one can just stop omeprazole cold. It causes acid rebound to do that. You must reduce slowly, substituting a milder antacid while doing so. This is what the latest reports say.  add a comment

You MUST wean off of prilosed. When you stop prilosec, if you have been taking it for a long time, your stomach will produce twice as much acid and cause your symptoms to come back, but worse. Do some more research.  add a comment
