How can I get rid of blurred vision that results from chlorine exposure?
After swimming in a pool without goggles, I had blurry vision. This happened two days in a row - a haze over everything I see. It goes away the next morning, but returns after swimming again. Is there a way to get rid rid of it faster than sleeping on it?
The blurry vision is probably a result of irritation in your eyes from the chlorine, which is a pretty strong chemical in the first place. In order to avoid it, just wear goggles. Once your eyes are irritated, though, you can flush them with water or eye drops, both of which simulate the action of tears washing out the chlorine.
If your eyes are burning or your vision is blurred, rinse your eyes with plain water for 10 to 15 minutes. If you wear contacts, remove them before rinsing your eyes, do not put the contacts back in your eyes, dispose of them even if you do not wear disposable contacts.
The best solution is prevention, hence the sales of swim goggles. The best thing for eyes is saline solution. It is used by wearer's of contacts to clean and store the contacts, and to re-moisturize the eyeballs. Flush the eyes with saline solution several times, then a rest period of closed eyes for 10 to 15 minutes.
Start using goggles! If your eyes are irritated rinse them theroughly with fresh clean water. Natural tears are also very helpful so countinuous blinking will work up some water from your eyes. If you are this bothered by it visiting a doctor is recomended, though he may only tell you to use you goggles.
