First of all, learn to respect yourself as a unique person with wonderful talents and abilities. Once you see yourself as someone worth respecting, he will, too. Also, and this comes from personal experience -- a man respects his woman much more if she's making money. If the woman isn't bringing in some income, she's often seen as a burden.

Try telling him how you feel. If that does not work, then tell him things either have to change or you are going to find someone who will treat you with respect and not as a possession. Try to make him see how he is treating you and that you don't like it.

You don't get any respect because you don't demand respect. People can only get away with something if the other person let them. If you have told him repeatdly that you are not happy with how he treats you then it is time you move out on your own. And do not go back unless he changes.

You must demand respect, and set consequences if he does not give it. Sadly, these consequences may have to include ending the marriage.

He can only do that if you allow him. Start off with baby steps, otherwise he will disregard how you are feeling, and become a bit more independent.
