Most dogs love canned pumpkin and don't need any prodding. If necessary, mix a little bit with the dog's favorite canned food or meat, praise the dog for eating it, and gradually increase the amount of pumpkin.
I have never fed my dog canned pumpkin there is a lot of coloring and preservatives in it. But if you need your dog to eat it you might try mixing it with some things you know the dog does like or you could try mixing it with some canned dogfood that has gravy.
My crazy dog LOVES canned pumpkin. I found this out when I was using the can opener to open a can of it and she came running in when she heard the can opener going. She wouldn't leave me alone so I gave her a spoonful to show her it wasn't dog food and she absolutely loved it!
