To avoid any problems you should connect the output device (like a Television or a Proyector) BEFORE turning the laptop on, and it will recognize the extra output device automatically. If the laptop is already on, you need to use the Display Configuration Tool that comes with the Graphics Card or the Windows Resolution Screen.

That depends on your laptop setup and the projector setup. If your laptop has an S-video output you can simply plug the cable into that and then run it to your projector. Otherwise you would likely be able to find an adapter from the laptop's VGA output
