How can I fix a leak in a GM transmission if it is leaking from the axle seal?

I have noticed a leak in my GM transmission, I would like to repair it myself.

In order to fix a leaky axle seal; it must be replaced. Jack up the front of the car and place the jack stand under the pinch welds. You must let the suspension hang. Remove axle. Remove old seal and replace the new seal in reverse order.

In most cases you should just have to replace the leaking seal. It might be possible to replace it with the transmission in the car but the half-shaft will need to be pulled. Buy a service manual or research online for detailed instructions.

Well if the seal needs replaced then you should be able to repair it yourself. However the driveshaft will need to be removed and possible the tail-housing assembly. You might be able pull out the old one and gently tap the new one in but some must be pressed in place.

You will need to get a new gasket and get the car up in the air quite high. You will need to drop the axle so you can get access to the seal. Install the new gasket and than bolt everything back up. This should solve the problem but will take a few days to complete.

Jack up the GM. Put it on jack stands. Remove tires. Remove breaks, Remove axle shaft "special tool needed". Then remove axle seals, you can do it with basic tools but its easier with a seal puller. Then Put it all back together.

If you are having leakage problems from your axle seal then you need to most likely buy a new front axle.
