Most oak finishes are used with are used with oak. One of the most common and the most economic is the cherry wood finish which will show a lighter color to your wood. If it is a light wood then it is probably this.

You may be able to contact the manufacturer of your set or the furniture store where the set was purchased may have the finish on file. There are several at home test you can run to determine the finish. Your local home improvement store is a good resource for this.
