Were you served divorce papers? Did you go through the process of a divorce? It is possible your spouse divorced you and you were never notified. Check with the county court clerk where your spouse lives ( hopefully the same county where you live ) and check to see if a divorce has been granted.

You could go to the court house in your county and do a search of divorces that have been granted, or ask your wife, she will know.

Check with the courthouse where you live, and also where he/she lives. If that doesn't help and you need to be single,you will need to file for a divorce yourself.

You can find out if you are married from various ways. The main proof is registration after marriage. Morever marriage takes place in presence of many witnesses who participates in functions. The other proof is marriage certificate. Nowadays certificate is compulsory for everything. Especially to get a passport. So keep it safely.
