How can I find my building violations?

This question varies greatly, and depends on where you are located. Most major cities will have links in their formal websites, offering searchable databases for building violations (e.g. Chicago). Other times, you can check the recorder of deeds office of your county and search for public records related to your property. Sometimes violations are posted with the recorder of deeds.

Yes, depending on the state. Simply call or go to your local building inspector's office, some of them work out of city hall. Ask them about their recent inspections of your building, if you're looking for something specific, be sure to tell them. It may require a fee.

Yes, they should be public record. The first place that you can go to is city inspections office or the town hall, they should be able to direct you to the right office that keeps records, be warned they might charge you a fee or ask you to look up the records your self.
