What I have done to relieve this problem is going to get professional massages once every 2 weeks. It really helps the stiffness in my neck and shoulders.

Use warm compresses or a heating pad on a low setting. Do some gentle range of motion exercises to loosen the muscles. Taking ibuprofen regularly for a couple of days (if you don't have any history of bleeding problems or stomach problems) will also help. If this doesn't loosen your shoulder, see your care provider.

Most likely, exercise and physical therapy can relieve stiffness. Your muscles can get stiff if you don't use them enough. If you don't move your shoulder around on a regular basis, it can get "frozen. " Of course, see your doctor to check for more serious problems first.

First off, if the stiffness is creating bad pain you should see a doctor. To relieve the pain, use a hot water bad or heating pad and place it on the neck or shoulder. Icy Hot cream is also a good remedy for stiffness. You could also take painkillers.
