How can I become a special effects technician?

This sounds like the best job in the world.

You might try 'shadowing' a person who does the job you're interested in. As with most jobs there are good parts and boring parts, all required. Good Luck!

A background in science and engineering is useful as is art and computers. You will need to make a demo reel to show off your work to use a portfolio. Also some universities teach special effects in their theater departments.

Well you basically have to go to art school and then take your major as a special effects technician. I think it takes about 2 to 4 years to get your degree and then after you will gain some experience for special effects and then you can basically practice your degree.
