Medicaid unlike Medicaire is a state run not federally run program. It provides assistance for low income individuals. Generally you would apply by contacting your state's social service department (they have different names in different states). You will fill out the necessary papers and show proof of financial need.

Contact a local social services office. They should be able to give you the application process over the phone or send you a packet of information. You can also research the application process on the internet. In most cities, the same office that handles food stamps also handles the medicaid applications.

The simplest way to apply for medicaid is to contact your local division of family services. This is the place that offers food stamps and other state aid.

You can apply for Medicaid by going to your local Department of Health Services. You will need to fill out an application and must meet income eligibility or have a disability that makes you eligible for the aid.

To apply, go to your State's Government website. On the site there should be a page that discusses Medicaid and who is eligible to apply for the benefits.

You can do either two things. You can apply at your local Human Services office or you can go online. Every state has a website where you can apply online.

Although federally funded, medicaid is run by the states. Thus, the way to apply varies from state to state. In general, if you go to any food stamps or welfare office, you can get an application. Often, you can also get them from a social security office.

Call your primary care physician; call local hospitals- most have a find a doctor help line; call Medicaid and ask for a list of doctors; ask friends for referrals.
