You shouldn't attempt to adhere ceramic tile to wallpaper. The wallpaper should be taken off down to where you have a clean, flat surface to work with. You should use a good quality tile adhesive to make sure your tile stays where you put it, allow to dry and grout.

Adhering ceramic tile to wallpaper is not without risk. This is because if the tile adheres, its weight could bring down the paper, along with the tile. if you decide to install over wallpaper, rough up the surface of the paper with sandpaper first. Thinset mortar is used to hold the tiles on. Complete instructions available at .

Wallpaper is not a stable surface for ceramic tile. The adhesive for the tile will eventually deteriorate the wallpaper and the tile will come loose. Strip the wallpaper and repair the wall surface before tiling.

You must remove the wallpaper, which is not a durable surface to which you can attach anything, especially something as heavy as ceramic tile. Remove the wallpaper . Talk to a professional at the home improvement store about whch technique would be best. Restore the wall so that you have a smooth, flat surface to adhere the tile.

Ceramic tile should not be placed over wallpaper. The tile adhesive will adhere to the wallpaper and not the wall. Strip the wallpaper off the wall. Ceramic tile can be installed onto drywall, plaster, or cement backer board.

Make sure to scratch, sand, or rough up the surface where you want tile first, otherwise they won't stick, then make sure to use a good mortar and they should stay good.

First get the wall prepared. You shouldn't put the tile over multiple layers of wallpaper. If there are multiple layers take them off. If the bottom layer is really stuck to the wall you can use a mastic adhesive to adhere the tile to the wall. This tile can not be in an area that gets wet.

I think if you sand the wall paper down smoothly you could adhere ceramic tile right over the wallpaper. So first, you sand, then you wipe down, and then tile.

This is the lazy way to do tiling. Remove the wallpaper and if their are any holes to plaster I would repair the wall first. They lay a layer of tile paste and put the tile up. Use spacers to space the tiles as you go along. Then grout tile.
