If your dog is killing cats, then it needs to be contained. Keep your dog in a fenced in area with no cats around.

Dogs instinctively assault cats many times. Especially roaming street dogs;whereas many other dogs do not have the hunt mentality at all. However, that cannot be determined and therefore, all dogs should be walked on leashes. And cats ideally should be kept indoors.
