A quarterback can throw both faster and further by first of all, strengthening his arm. He can do this by working his upper body out at a qym on a regular basis. This would mostly help with the distance. To throw faster, a quarterback needs to practice regularly and learn to release the fall at the appropriate time.

He needs to work out and gain more muscle which will give him more velocity on his throw. He also needs to work on his upper body to gain more strength.

The key to passing is practice. Arm strength is important, but accuracy is most important. The release point for a long pass will be early in the throw, resulting in a higher arc, and more distance. A short throw will have later release point. Step, hip turn, shoulder turn and compact throwing motion are the stages of any throw. Practice!
