How are piercings viewed?

While personally, I view piercings as expressions of personal individuality, there are a good majority of people out there that do not have such positive opinions of them. I feel that certain piercings are more socially acceptable than others.

Piercings are viewed by some people as a blemish upon your body, while other people view piercings as an artistic statement.

It is not an uncommon practice for businesses to restrict the number and location of piercings acceptable for their employees, so there is a perception that piercings are viewed negatively.
