On older ipods press and hold the Play and Menu buttons together for 10 seconds. On the newer "click wheel" type ipods, press and hold the menu and select buttons for 10 seconds. NOTE : This will reset the ipod but your songs will remain. Ensure your ipod is unlocked.

If the Ipod is completely out of batteries you will need to put in on the charger. Hold the middle button of the wheel along with the "play" button, this will do a soft restart. This will keep all your music/settings.

First things first you need to try simply letting it power off. Hold down the power button for at least 20 seconds and see if it powers off. If that does not work you will need to find the button sequence to reset your iPod. Be warned this option will wipe the devices memory.

Push and hold the power button and the home button at the same time. If you see a battery with a red line on it, your iPod needs charged. If the iPod is charged, then in a few seconds you should see an apple, and it should reset.
