White marble is a beautiful choice and coordinates wonderfully with wood wainscoting. In fact both of these materials were popular during the Arts and Crafts period, and look wonderful together, especially since the wainscoting can be painted to coordinate with other elements in the room.

It can, but wood wainscoting tends to be cottage styles and marble is formal. You may want to paint the wainscoting white to make it more formal.

It depends, I would use it with white waniscoting, but if your going to have a dark stained wainscoting it could look very highend, such as a cherry finish. A white finish however I think would just make the entire room/area looked washed out.
