There is a requirement regarding maximum body fat. Because testing for body fat percentage is involved, the Army first refers to a weight chart. If the individual exceeds the recommended body weight/height ratio, that individual is then referred for testing to determine his/her body fat percentage. The U.S. Army looks fit because it is fit.

The US Army is more concerned with body fat percentage than it is with weight. The Army has developed weight charts; an individual who exceeds the weight for a specific height is then tested for body fat percentage. The tests are involved and are not given to everyone, only to individuals whose weight may be out of line.

Yes, the percentage of body fat allowed varies by the age and sex of the soldier. Other physical fitness and height & weight standards are also used. Most of the standards can be found by searching online. I found the 2010 standards at apft-standards dotcom.

It's not so much a limit on body fat as requirements to pass PT tests regularly. During Basic Training they put you through a lot of activities that help get you in shape for the job. A young man we know lost 30 pounds in 9 weeks.

The Army, as well as all branches of the military, has fitness standards. Personnel are required to take regular fitness tests. Failure to pass the test results in "fitness camp" and possible restrictions, etc. until the standards are met. There is no limit on body fat, but individuals who are fit do not have a disproportionate amount body fat.

Yes, it all depends on the weight. If a military member weighs more than it is allowed on the chart, then he is measured for a body-fat percentage. According to that he is then accepted or denied.

There is not a specific limit on body fat percentage but there is a maximum and minimum height to body weight ratio that varies by gender and age.
