Does the Petrarchan sonnet have to do with unattainable love?

Was it made into an opera?

The Petrarchan sonnet is a type of sonnet rather than a sonnet itself. It has a particular pattern of rhyme and does usually have to do with the theme of unattainable love.

No. The Petrarchan sonnet is a structure, which means the form of the poem determines whether or not is is Petrarchan. A sonnet is always 14 lines, and a Petrarchan sonnet consists of a "octet" (8 lines) and a "sestet" (6 lines). It has nothing to do with opera.
