Does insurance cover damage to a roof due to heavy rain?

It would be best to read your policy to find out if you have that kind of coverage. You can ask your insurance salesperson as well. Some may not know and some will just tell you that this type of damage is not covered. I would definitely read the policy myself to find out.

Yes, depending on the area you live, the insurance should cover the damage to a roof due to a heavy rain. But the point is, it also depends on how old your roof was and what condition it was in prior to the rain fall. The will cover only how much they think the roof was worth.

A good rule of thumb to remember for hazard insurance is that outside water is not a covered peril. This includes, rain, seepage, flooding and the like. Further, heavy rain is unlikely to damage your roof. Contact your insurer for questions or if you would like to file a claim anyway.
