Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and heartburn are common side effects of glucosamine. The risk of a severe allergic reaction is rare but possible, especially if you are allergic to shellfish or if you have diabetes or asthma. If your doctor recommends taking the supplement, they have most likely determined that the benefits of taking it outweigh the possible side effects.

The only side effect I've ever heard from people taking glucosimine suppliments are an upset stomach and digestive issues. These usually go away once your body gets used to the suppliments and can be aliviated by trying different forms. For instance, you could try liquid forms rather than pills or injections.

There are no known side effects to taking the supplement. Potential concerns are twofold: Some sources say to avoid glucosamine if the patient is allergic to shellfish; though others say this is a non issue. It is also debated as to some link between extra glucosamine and diabetes. This claim too is hotly disputed.
