Does a sundial work the same North and South of the equator?

I have a sundial and need to know if it works different.

I believe that it should work the same in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Since the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west, the direction that the sun will be measured from will not change. For that reason, I would think that only the rotation of the Earth matters, not the hemishpere you are in.

Specific sundial work at the correct latitude. But equatorial sundial work at the North and South Poles. If you live in north of the equator, then the Sun rises toward the east. However, a sundial does not work if there is no sunlight due to clouds or nightfall.
